Health Care for All in South Africa Essay example - 535 Words

Topic: Health Care for All 1.1 Constraints to the expansion of Economy and Business. The ANC-led government introduced various systems to improve access to health care for all South African citizens. As a result of this system, pregnant women and children under the age of six are able to access free health care and every South African citizen is able to access free primary care. Senior citizens who qualify for social grant are also receiving secondary health care services free of charge. Currently, the public funded hospitals in South Africa serve approximately 80% of the population because of charging small fees for treatment and this deprives many low income earners from accessing quality health care services. The health care systems†¦show more content†¦This will enable everyone to have equal standard of care irrespective of one’s social standing. The NDP also emphasizes an easy access to primary health care in terms of ensuring that primary health care teams are established throughout the country with the required number of doctors, specialists, physicians and nurses. 1.3 Business Opportunities and Economic Advantages that may potentially arise from the successful implementation of the National Development Plan The benefits of implementing the National Health Care System will create opportunities for the low income earners to access quality health care, hence; life expectancy will increase up to 70 years (National Planning Commission, 2011). Unemployment rate in South Africa is high and a successful implementation of the NDP strategies will result in more jobs being created. Hence, the plan is targeting approximately 5 million new job opportunities, which should be created by 2020 and by 2030, 11 million jobs are targeted (National Planning Commission, 2011). Since National Development Plan is aiming at achieving an average economic growth of 5.4% by 2030, this is likely to be possible depending on the success of the National Development Plan. Thus, if the economy of a country is able to grow by more than five percent a year, government revenue and the profits of private firms will obviously double over theShow MoreRelatedUnited States vs South Africa Healthcare1251 Words   |  6 PagesAF RICA VS UNITED STATES In our world each country has a set of standards to follow in order to establish health care insurance for people in different communities. Euripides Feminism Vs Misogynist - 1422 Words

Kasey Sanchez Mr. De Filippis English 4 (H) P.5 December 12 2015 Euripides: Proto Feminism Vs Misogynist At the time of writing Medea in ancient Greece it was the complete norm for men to be incredibly misogynistic sexist, and although there are many that say otherwise, Euripides falls under the same category as the men of the time. Scholars, professors, and students alike proclaim that Euripides was one of the first few men who would be considered a feminist, a â€Å"champion of woman’s equality† (Wright 7), because of his writing of Medea, a play which depicts a demigod woman by the name of Medea wreaking revenge upon her unfaithful husband. Many would instantly attach themselves to the idea that Euripides was a feminist first by reading Medea’s grand speech at the beginning at of the play. Hadas refers to the speech as being â€Å"a fine feminist harangue† and also notes that English suffragettes would campaign for their ability to vote first by opening their meetings with a recital of the speech. Me dea is going against men and their view of women and their place in a marriage â€Å"a critique whose essential spirit of dislike and contempt of women goes back to an ancient anti-feministic tradition†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (Reckford 336). Medea, as well, is portrayed as no weak, foolish women; instead she is depicted as â€Å"a woman of great intellectual capacity† (March 38) who even in her most monstrous form, when she kills her children in the name of retribution and vengeance, is still being

To enhance effective and efficient allocation and utilization of fund geared towards fulfilling Gauteng Provincial Government priorities and improving the financial management system, the Provincial Treasury stipulated a statement of purpose to guide it. According to the Gauteng Provincial Treasury five-year strategic and performance plans for the period 2009-2014 second draft (5th September 2008) the goal of the treasury was, â€Å"to provide sound financial management leadership that maximizes service delivery through effective and efficient use of limited resources in the Gauteng Province† (p. 36). The Gauteng Provincial Treasury exhibits reliability and efficiency by performing duties given to them in accordance to the legislative mandate. It ensures the principles it has formed are aligned in accordance to the Batho Pele principles by enabling the provision of technical assistance and analysis, ensuring the spending agencies value the function of money and thus do not misuse the money or misinterpret the role the treasury plays when managing the government’s financial materials. This is done through training programs such as CIBA and SAM. Also the treasury should promoting transparency by publication of their annual reports and budgets through local newspapers, budget statements and MTBPS. The treasury department also ensures the allocation of funds to every department are according to the provincial priorities which include building a competitive Gauteng GCR, implementing Gauteng social GDS and building the capacity and organization of the state. The Gauteng Provincial Treasury being an independent department has a critical role to perform thus needs to be able to motivate the program levels it is working with, to be able to achieve the stipulated goals. The treasury department should be able to plan, organize, have good interpersonal skills and be able to evaluate performance so as to run the duties outlined to it in the most competent and accurate manner (Rees Porter, 2001). The head of the treasury department was able to show good leadership skills by involving each department in decision making, when reviewing and updating the strategic plan for the period of 2009-2014, developing medium term tactical plans and outlining the methods to use when evaluating performance of the department after every year. In the period of 2006-2009 the treasury did not fully accomplish some of the roles it played. When formulating the strategic plan for the period of 2009-2014, it discussed ways of overcoming that short fall by improving and adding value to maximize their performance so as be able to raise the living standard of the Gauteng citizens, creating a parallel line between their corporate services function and their core strategies, using internal and external auditors to monitor and evaluate those sent to work in the municipalities to prevent creation of too much dependency which may bring undesirable outcome, interns and the credibility of their data. The results the auditors present should be discussed and the solutions given implemented to lay a competent foundation of performing duties in the most qualified way. The treasury department should form a partnership with the Chief Financial officer (CFO) and professional bodies to enable it function in a reliable manner towards achieving the department’s vision. The treasury should work with the CFO working for Gauteng Provincial Treasury to be able to evaluate the performance of the department in reference to achieving the department’s vision. It should also liaise with other CFO’s to gain more knowledge and tactics of performing the role it has defined to fulfill the department’s vision. Strategies of communicating with other departments in the Provincial Treasury must be improved, to enable full understanding of the duties they perform. For the treasury department to set a good trend of performing the roles given, to enable the Gauteng Provincial Government achieve the goals it promised the citizens of Gauteng, unqualified municipalities should be fired. You read "Amalise Strategic Management" in category "Management" This means that the treasury should review its strategy of staffing to ensure that it has a quality staff in the right quantity. It should design KSAOs (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics of the organization) that it will use when staffing, to employ qualified and competent people who will work to the maximum of their capability to improve the overall performance of the treasury department. This will place the department in a better position to perform their duties according the preference and priority of the Gauteng citizens. The head of department in the Gauteng Provincial Treasury should have an ambition that drives him, so as to plan and organize the various departments under his disposal and the duties to be carried out by each department in an efficient way. He should have a power of influence and inspiration so as to win the trust of the subordinate leaders by leading the department in an appropriate manner that will accomplish their vision. The HOD should also be innovative and posses qualities of being able to implement and develop the ideas that have come up and those that existed. This will enable excellent performance and smooth running of the treasury department and thus demolish the foundation of the risks that the Gauteng treasury department faced (Caroselli, 2000). By adopting the right staffing strategies the Gauteng treasury will have competent and qualified staff members that will be able to understand any policy or strategy formed for them to implement as they perform their duties, this will prevent the problem of under and over staffing, lack of motivation and good guidance to the staff and poor management in the departments (Rees Porter, 2001). For instance due to poor strategies of staffing the Gauteng treasury was unable to implement the strategy given to it by the Gauteng provincial government (GPG). The HOD should evaluate the performance of the department on a regular basis to be able to understand the strengths and weaknesses of every member and delegate duties to them in a fair manner and according to their skill, capacity and competence. This will also help to raise any problem like lack of resources and technology and thus be in a position to provide them. The same system of organization and running of duties will be maintained eliminating the chances of a confusion cropping up during the performance period. This will curb the problem of lack of integration of financial systems (Caroselli, 2000). As the Gauteng treasury department continues to expand, appropriate measures should be carried out to also expand the working space and enable comfort to prevail to the staff as they are working. This will increase the overall out put and efficiency of each staff member. The HOD should set up a reliable information and technology management system to prevent loss of data that will give the treasury a history of their performance which is very important when evaluating the performance of the department. This will also prevent the loss of any current information or data being worked on thus maintain the efficiency of the department, because time will not be wasted repeating the same thing again. A back up measure that is reliable and easy to operate and manage should be devised (Rees Porter, 2001). Administrative skills and policies have been implemented into each department, enabling good relationship to prevail in the treasury department thus contributing to the overall efficiency of performance in the department. This can be portrayed by the good relationship between the HOD and the employees, national treasury, implementation of NCOP, with the investors and human resource services among others. The Provincial Treasury must take care to prevent the functioning of the treasury to run under the influence of the politicians as this will make them rule biased decisions that favors only one party instead of working to satisfy the desires of the citizens of Gauteng. The treasury department should avoid over reliance to politicians to act as their guarantors in case of financial crisis but instead should work closely with the DED and GEP. Contracts formed must be fulfilled according to the terms agreed on this can be guided by implementation of SLA with ABSA. This will ensure trust between the treasury departments and the organization or person they are drawing a contract with is maintained. The HOD should ensure the municipalities are thoroughly audited to ensure the funds allocated to them are put in to their correct use and thus eliminate mismanagement of funds. Before initiating any planning methodologies, appropriate and sufficient research should be done to help accurate and adequate allocation of funds to every department in the treasury (Rees Porter, 2001). Implementation of good leadership skills will enable the Provincial Treasury to meet their objectives which include; being recognized as the leading Provincial Treasury in South Africa, ensuring good governance of all financial matters in the province, promoting integration and alignment of planning processes within the Province, exploring, implementing and managing strategic financing solutions, ensuring the effective and efficient management of Gauteng Provincial Treasury and to be a preferred employer, attracting and retaining high performing individuals (Caroselli, 2000). The strategic management of the Provincial Treasury department should implement good management and leadership skills in the period of 2009-2014, to enable the department to go by their goal, vision, mission and objectives and uplift the performance of the Gauteng Provincial Government. This will make the Gauteng citizens to trust that the Gauteng Provincial Government will act on their needs and will re-elect it back to power. Word Count: 1930 Reference List Caroselli, M. (2000). Risk Management Linking Tourism into Emergency Management

Question: Discuss about the Risk Management for Linking Tourism into Emergency Management. Answer: Requirement 1 The legislations involving the Work Health and Safety (WHS) offer a vast range of corrective measures and enforcement alternatives to promote the workplace scenario. The legislations include the roles and responsibilities played by the health and safety representatives (HSRs) to issue the provisional improvement notices. In order to bring possible improvement to the workplace condition, the on-the-spot fines are also issued by the WHS regulators and inspectors (Davies and Walters 2013). The same process also facilitates the reduction of any breaches related to the provisions outlined by the WHS. From the information mentioned in the earlier paragraph, it can be acknowledged that the roles and responsibilities of the HSR are essential for developing the condition of the tourism destination. The major responsibility of the HSR is issuing the provisional improvement notices (PINs) after finding the possible breaches in the compliance of the WHS Act. In case of the breaches in the tourism businesses, they are likely to be repeated in the future (Becken and Hughey 2013). At the same time, the HSRs must need to arrange a discussion with the person responsible for the identified breach. Regarding the current case study, the possible breach of WHS legislation occurs considering the following situations: The risk experienced by the person due to the injury Possible occurrence of illness or death of the staffs Absence of possible implementation of corrective measures for eliminating the risky scenarios Failure to comply with the regulatory guidelines and requirements of WHS or NSW legislations Firstly, the health and safety related risks are observed in terms of the particular location of the restored hotel. The surrounding area of the hotel is dimly lit, where the considerable number of robberies and assaults happened previously. Not only the staffs but also the guests of the hotel are highly exposed to the breach of standard safety protocols (Paraskevas et al. 2013). On the other hand, the facilities of the hotel are not maintained properly over the months. As a result, staffs and guests have to suffer from different kinds of health issues. Apart from that, the major issues are found in the knowledge level of the HSRs, as they are less trained to cause troubles in the administration area. Lastly, multiple illnesses and health injuries are determined from the individual staff reports of the hotel. These include the breathing difficulties and burns to hands and eyes. There is no information obtained about the chemicals used in these incidents as per the investigation (Ritc hie et al. 2013). Therefore, the staffs are not informed about the hazards of the chemical bottles, which are critically holding back the incorporation of the health and safety measures mentioned by NSW legislation. The combination of these incidents is causing the breach in WHS legislations with reference to the NSW guidelines. Requirement 2 There are multiple examples of hazards found in the workplace setting. These hazards potentially push the workers or the clients to the face multiple difficulties regarding the occupational health and safety. The high chances of hazard can also occur due to the use of specific equipment by the operators who are not trained properly. On the other hand, the preliminary set of investigation suggests that the statements related to the operations and methods of the work are not notified to the workplace health and safety guidelines developed by the specific authority (Rittichainuwat 2013). It causes serious health related illnesses or injuries to the staffs as well as the guests of the tourism business. The same scenario is observed in the selection of a location for the restored hotel, which is vulnerable to the downgrading impacts of assaults and robberies. The incident was formerly accounted for harming the safety and security of the staffs and guests of the tourism business. One of the significant issues comes from the ineffective knowledge of the HSRs associated with the administration department of the tourism business. Due to the situation, the equipment and facilities are not appropriately reviewed by the HSRs for their operational capabilities. As a result, the life has broken down at least five times in the last month causing the guest to suffer major health problems (Paraskevas and Altinay 2013). Alternatively, the staffs in the housekeeping department are mostly belonging to the non-English speaking backgrounds leading towards the ineffectiveness of communication. These incidents at a whole are responsible for raising the workplace hazards in the identified hotel. Requirement 3 Workplace hazards are commonly referred as the occupational health and safety related factors. Considering the definition of hazard, it is known as the potential source of harm providing different kind of adverse effect on the individuals of the business. In terms of hazards and risks, these two factors are used interchangeably. For an example, the spill of water in the room of a hotel would cause a slipping hazard to a person who is passing through (Hanna Salman Sawalha, Eid Jraisat, and Al-Qudah 2013). If any physical barrier were applied to prevent the access to the particular area, then the possibility of risks from the hazard would be minimised though the hazard would remain. This is known as the risk treatment, which requires essential priority to be provided by the hotel and tourism businesses. In relation to the above understanding, risk refers to the likelihood that a person may be suffered or harmed by the adverse effects of the different degrading conditions of the occupational settings. Therefore, the chances of risks related to occupational health and safety increase when the individual is exposed to the hazards (Beirman, Ritchie, and Campiranon 2014). The incidents related to the breaking down of the lift five times in a month or the potential exposure to the harmful chemical bottles in the newly restored hotel had caused significant health risks to both the staffs and the guests. Therefore, the hotel business should need to develop a suitable control measure to satisfy the requirement of the risk treatment. It will help the development of the tourism business to attract more guests and staffs with their skills in managing occupational risks and health-related factors. Requirement 4 As discussed in the earlier about the need of risk treatment, it is essential for the hotel and tourism business to develop a comprehensive control measure for planning and implementing the proposed set of actions. Due to the application of these actions, the hotel can effectively reduce the potential exposure to the different hazards identified in the workplace (Paraskevas 2013). Before adopting such techniques and functions, the management of the hotel must need to take the initial responsibilities to control the outcomes for addressing the non-compliance with the legislations. In this case, the managerial level of control must need to explain the rationale of the proposed framework to the board for highlighting the key elements of the same framework. The basic aim of the process is ensuring the development of the revised approach contributing the reformation of the project objectives. The newly modified objectives ensure the establishment of a framework for guiding the HSRs when t hey come across the individually identified actions. The management level of controls is required to be developed by including the integrity and professional behaviour for deliberating the way forward to the light of the WHS legislations (Williams and Bal 2015). Here integrity maintained in developing the control measures will effectively contribute to the improvement of professional and business relationships. It will assist the hotel to create a professional workforce for the respective job roles. On the other hand, controlling the professional behaviour will help the hotel to comply with the relevant laws of NSW while avoiding any misconduct causing harms to the health and safety of the overall environment. Requirement 5 Considering the identified risks and hazards within the internal setting of the hotel, there is the requirement of developing the hierarchy of controls. Such process is required to define for ensuring the application of risk controls. As the hotel is newly restored, it is essential to develop a simple control measure for guiding the approaches followed by the different personnel as part of the workplace (Hamid et al. 2013). Therefore, a hierarchy of control measures is often an essential factor when it comes to developing the control measures. (Hierarchy of Control Measures appropriate for the chosen workplace setting; Source: Hsa.ie 2016) Based on the above diagram, different stages associated with the control measures are defined as part of the hierarchy of control. The first stage, i.e. eliminate refers to the elimination of the hazards for reducing the exposure to the risks. However, total elimination of hazards is not always achievable. Substituting means the introducing a replacement for the identified hazards for minimising the possibility of risks. Isolate suggests the isolation of hazardous place in the hotel for ensuring the strict restriction of public access (Orchiston 2013). Subsequently, the engineering control might need to be adopted for redesigning the process ensuring the placement of an appropriate barrier between the individuals and the hazards. In case of the administrative controls, it should be prioritised by the hotel significantly. The controls include undertaking standard operating procedures or safe working practices for providing effective training to the staffs and instructing them about th e information to reduce the potential risks from occupational hazards (Shreve, Davis, and Fordham 2016). Lastly, personal protective equipment or PPE include the utilisation of protective appliances by the staffs to minimise the exposure to the identified hazards. Requirement 6 Failure to comply with the WHS legislations with reference to the NSW legislation causes some serious hazards providing risks to the health and safety of the individuals associated with the workplace. The particular workplace should need to bear the costs of such non-compliance. In case of the hotel restored and located in The Rocks, the business is exposed to multiple risks from different categories of hazards. Due to the scenario, the business will be highly liable for the cost of providing benefits to the various staffs or guests for their work-related injuries or illnesses (Wang and Ritchie 2013). Due to the consequence of hazards, the business will be held responsible for the wellbeing related costs for risks suffered by the employees and guests. On the other hand, the staffs will feel unwilling to participate in their job roles due to the non-compliance with the WHS guidelines. Thus, the particular scenario will give rise to the avoidance arrangements causing the offence conducted by the staffs as part of the workforce. The situation will significantly cause the downturn of the financial as well as the operational condition of the hotel. Lastly, the hierarchy of control measures recommended for the hotel is developed to achieve considerable amount of benefits regarding the perspectives of occupational health and safety (Dahles and Susilowati 2015). Substituting and eliminating the hazards by adopting the engineering and administrative controls will cause the reduction of risks generated from the high exposure to the potential hazards. As a result, more motivated and skilled workforce can be formed while ensuring the standard services provided to the guests. Requirement 7 In case of failure to take the corrective measures for improving the workplace hazards, little problems often become big. Serious injuries or threats could be suffered by staffs and guests of the hotel if the responsible personnel does not bother to report the malfunctioning of a lift or the slip-and-fall hazard in the hotel floors. It will significantly raise the possibility of risks or injuries, which could have been prevented. Although, the severity of the consequences varies according to the failure to report hazards by the staffs of the hotel (Chew and Jahari 2014). The underreporting of hazards may occur from the mindset of the staffs if they feel of not having the authority to report the hazards. Lawsuits are an adverse actuality that the hotel business often needs to face as the major consequence of not complying with the WHS guidelines. The cost associated with defending the particular lawsuit often becomes a burden for the business even if it wins the case (Hamid et al. 201 3). On the other hand, accidents or injuries highly suffer productivity of the business. It is obvious that the injured staffs of the hotel will be unable to attend the work for weeks and resulted in affecting the productivity. References Becken, S. and Hughey, K.F., 2013. Movie Romero Essays - Scar Romero, English-language Films, Romero

Movie Romero In the movie Romero, Archbishop Romero changes very much in his understanding of love and in his understanding of true conscience. At first Romero is just a priest who isn't really concerned about the poor and how they are being oppressed, but when Romero is chosen to be the new Archbishop his friend, who is assassinated, I think has a slight impact on him. But I think when his friend is assassinated is when he really starts to realize what is happening to the country of El Salvador and how the government doesn't want anyone to speak out about this. So, now Romero is starting to action against the government and tries to speak out against them. Here we see Archbishop Romero's true conscience and love grow for the people around him because we see him taking more action against the government. I think that Archbishop Romero defines love as helping others who are in need and others who need his help whatever it may be. We see Romero do this when he starts to lead the revolt in trying to tell the El Salvadoran Government to stop oppressing the poor and treat everyone as human beings. I think Romero has to make a very big decision considering, the gorillas were sending out flyers that said ?Be a Patriot, Kill a Priest?. The decision that Romero had to make was whether or not to help the poor or just be a puppet for the cardinals that selected him to be a puppet in the beginning. I think the thing that made Romero choose to help out the poor was the love he had for them. I also believe that it was the right (moral) thing to do whether he would have done what he did or not. It wasn't right for the rich to richer and the poor to just keep getting poorer. Romero made a really important decision when he decided to help out the poor because he now became an enemy against the government. Romero grew immensely throughout the entire movie, his love for the people and his conscience (soul, ego) grew as well. Our notes tell us that love requires work it is not just a feeling you have. Romero did a lot work to find his love; he also made a lot of sacrifices. Some of the sacrifices that Romero made were, going into the church when it was taken over by the military Romero still went in knowing that he may be killed, but I think the biggest sacrifice that Romero gave his people was that he gave up his life so that maybe someday they could be free. This resembles Jesus very much, because Jesus gave up his life so that all of our sins would be taken away. Romero is a very brave man for doing this, I don't know many people who would give their lives up so others could be free this is a very non-selfish act. In my opinion there should be more people like this on the earth because there are so many problems that the world has to deal with in this day of age. I think that Oscar Anglo Romero y Glades was a great man for dieing for something that he truly believed in. Romero may have hesitated for a while on what to do, but in the long run what he did to help out the country of El Salvador was a major impact for the government to change. I wish there were more people like Romero in the world today, because there are not a lot of people that would still die for what they believe in like he did. I agree with all of Romero's decisions except one, the one I do not agree with is, how he waited so long to do anything about the countries condition. I hope the people who oppressed the poor and were killing the priests get what they deserve on their judgment day, because what they were doing is totally wrong according to moral standards. In my opinion, the idea of liberation theology is not right. I believe that God, treats every person the same, unless like in

How To Get More Followers On Pinterest With 21+ Tactics

How To Get More Followers On Pinterest With 21+ Tactics So you want to learn how to  get more followers on Pinterest. That makes sense since a  hefty majority of you told us that you want to grow your audience and  you measure your success through social media follower growth. Luckily for me, we have a Pinterest pro on the team here at . When I asked Nicole  how she gets more followers on Pinterest, this was her very first piece of advice: The general consensus seems to be Pin really great content that you love, and your followers will, too. Thats an awesome place to start. But Nicole wasnt done helping me learn this stuff quite yet, and since were trying to grow our own following on Pinterest here at - and you can now schedule Pins to Pinterest with - I thought Id share her tips and research with all of you, too. Sound good? This is about to get Pinteresting. (I know maybe I should quit the jokes.) How To Get More Followers On #Pinterest With 21+ Tactics That Will Grow Your Following Optimize Your Pinterest Profile To Get More Followers While your Pins are likely some of the first things potential followers see from your brand, Neil Patel notes it's super important to optimize your Pinterest profile to help you get more followers. This is likely due to the halo effect, which is the psychology behind first impressions and physical attractiveness- something super important for the visual audience who loves Pinterest. In its most essential form, the halo effect  suggests that when people have a positive experience with you, they're more likely to expect positive experiences in the future. Whoa! So if you make a good first impression, doesn't it make sense that  you could get more  followers because they'll expect favorable outcomes in the future? So filling out your profile helps potential followers see you're not a fly-by-night Pinner while giving you the chance to share information about your blog, brand, and your other social networks. Use the psychology behind #firstimpressions to get more followers on #Pinterest. While there are a lot of different fields to look into while fleshing out your Pinterest profile, here are the ones that will make a difference for getting more followers. Go to Settings to get started: 1.  Help Potential Followers  Find Your Pins Through Search Engines Start with your Business Account Basics  and slide  the Search privacy button to No.  This way, Pinterest will allow search engines to crawl the content you Pin which could help  you get more visibility in image searches with popular search engines like Google. Help Pinners find your content through search engines by changing your Search privacy setting to No. Recommended Reading: How to Determine Your Marketing Tactics 2.  Complete Your Pinterest Profile To Instantly Boost Your Credibility Then, in the Profile area, fill in your Business Name and Location. Your Picture  could be a professional-looking logo for your business or blog (remember the rule from the halo effect with physical attractiveness). Create a  Username  that will get pulled into your Pinterest URL, so as a business, using your company name probably makes the most sense. Add a brief description of your business and the value you offer potential Pinterest followers in the About you field. Wrap it up with one of the most important  fields: Confirm your Website.  This field helps Pinterest verify your site so you can use Rich Pins to add bonus information for article, movie, place, product, and recipe which get Pinned by more than 2 million people every day. When you confirm your site, Pinterest also shows the verified icon on your profile, which as Neil Patel notes, "may give potential followers more confidence in following you." The Website field is one of the most important things Pinterest uses to verify your site, which will boost your credibility via the halo effect. 3. Connect Your Other Social Networks To Your Pinterest Profile You can also connect your other social networks directly into Pinterest.  Mitt Ray, a Pinterest expert, took to Social Media Examiner to explain that this simple practice can "attract your Facebook and Twitter friends and followers to your Pinterest account." Simply sign  in to your company's Twitter handle. Then slide the Log in button to Yes. You can also connect to Facebook and Google+, but since those accounts are typically associated with a single person and not a business page, your Pinterest followers will be directed to your personal profiles. Connect your social profiles like your company's Twitter handle to your Pinterest account. When you connect your social profiles, you'll get the added bonus of having them appear in your Pinterest profile, which is a great way to offer your Pinterest followers the opportunity to follow you on other networks, too. When you connect your Twitter handle (or Facebook and Google+ profiles), the icon will show up in your Pinterest profile to help you get more followers. Optimize Your Blog And Social Media 4. Keep Pin It And Follow Prompts On Your Blog And Website Nicole  suggests  having  Pin it and follow prompts on your site to help convert the traffic you get into Pinners and followers. For example, Social Media Examiner uses the Pinterest follow prompt on their blog: Social Media Examiner uses the Pinterest follower button to convert blog visitors into Pinterest followers. And when you click on that button, an appealing window opens from Pinterest to help you convert your  visitors into Pinterest followers: This is what your followers will see when you add the Pinterest follow button to your blog. Getting that follow button- and the Pin It button- is easy.  When you're on your home page, click the gear icon and select Make a widget. Navigate to your Pinterest home page, then select the gear icon to make a follow widget. Then, in the popup, click Learn More. Click Learn More in the widget popup. Now you can create Pin It buttons for specific blog posts and also grab  a follow button you can embed in your theme. Create a follow button by entering in your Pinterest URL and embedding the code on your blog. Recommended Reading: Are You Excited? Embed Boards And Pins Into Your Blog Posts This idea is an extension of what you just learned about the Pin It and follow buttons  but relates much more directly to your blog posts. Pinterest now makes it easy to embed Pins and board previews right into your posts to help you get more followers from your blog visitors. Follow the same instructions from the prior step, and embed your Pinterest content like this: You should probably hit that follow button. Come on, you know you want to! ;) When we recently embedded a board like that into a  blog post, we  received a 640% boost in Pinterest followers that week. 6.  Share Your Pinterest Love On Other Social Networks Some of your followers on other social networks may also like to follow you on Pinterest. It is definitely some people's preferred discover tool, as Nicole pointed out to me. And it turns out, Pinterest is smart enough to help you share  your Pins and boards on your other social networks easily. Share your Pins to followers on other networks to encourage them to follow you on Pinterest. You can use that functionality to share your Pins with your Twitter  and Facebook followers to encourage them to follow you on Pinterest, too. Pro Tip: Grab the Pin link  to easily schedule a social message right in  your social media calendar. Participation On Pinterest Is A Conversation Advertising isn't very effective because it talks to your audience, not with your audience. Communication is different than mass marketing because it is a real conversation between people and isn't one-sided.  That's how  Pinners demand participation.  And since that's the case, it's a great lesson to keep in mind as you try to get more  followers on Pinterest. Advertising talks to, communication speaks with. Have a conversation to participate on #Pinterest.7. Repin Often To Introduce Yourself To New Pinners Nicole says: Don't be spammy. Pin at least 50/50 ratio of other content to your own. Treat Pinterest like its own entity, so get creative and CURATE. And that says a lot. Pinterest is an information discovery engine: Like a social site fused  with a search engine. Pinterest feeds  on curation, and Pinners demand conformity to the culture for its participants. Still other Pinterest experts suggest Repinning even more content  by following the Pareto principle of 80% Repins to 20% of your own original Pins. Regardless of your approach, here are the major reasons why Repinning will help you get more followers: You will connect with more people who share similar interests.  Pinners take notice of those who Repin their work often, which can lead to follows. You will build robust boards of curated content to vet your ideas. By Pinning other folks' content to your boards, you can see which boards get the most followers and double down the time you invest into creating  original content to increase your followers even more. You will show potential followers  that you're not just out for #1. A  while ago, Paul Wilson at Pinnable Business built an audience for a new Pinterest account of 6,275 followers by focusing on building  a community.  Curating and Repinning were an undeniable  first step. Takeaway: Define the amount of content  you'll curate and Repin, and  stick to the plan. When you find great content from a Pinner, plan to share their Pins  a few times to build a  connection that could turn into a follow. 8. Follow  Pinners  Who Already Love You As Aaron Lee  explains, "Following 5 to 10 people a day can make a huge difference compared to waiting for people to follow you." That makes sense, especially since you know Pinterest  relies on participation- and especially at first, you might have to make the first move to grow your following. To get started, find Pinners who have shared your content because they already know who you are. Simply search on Pinterest using this query:  https://www.pinterest.com/source/YourDomain.com/. Then you'll see all the Pins that came from your domain- complete with the Pinners' names. Find Pinners to follow who have already shared your content by using this query: https://www.pinterest.com/source/YourDomain.com/. These Pinners would all make for great folks for to follow on Pinterest. Just click through to see those Pinners' profiles and follow them. Nicole says: Make sure that you trust the source you're Pinning from. If it's spammy or not legit, you can be flagged as spam and land in Pinterest jail.  So watch who you follow because spammers are rampant there, and only Repin from trusted sources. So how can you tell if a potential person you'd like to follow isn't that great? Spam accounts might look a little like this where they share the same things over and over: 9.  Find Pinners Who've Already Pinned From Your Blog You can learn a lot from Pinterest Analytics  including: Your own  profile's best-performing Pins and boards. Use that knowledge to share more content that is similar to your top performers. That will increase your Repins and help  you reach new followers. Your existing audience's demographics and interests. Just like before, use that information to help you curate more content that suits their interests and plan original Pins  that they'll love. Your top activity for content shared from your domain. This is where you can find the top Pins from your content and most popular boards those were Pinned to. That means you can use this information to find folks who already love your content so you can engage with them through Repins, comments, and follows. The Activity tab in your Pinterest Analytics is probably the best place to start to find new potential followers. Simply scroll through to find the Pinners who gave you your top Pin impressions, and the boards that were most popular for your content. Pinterest Analytics can help you find popular boards from Pinners who share your content, which can help you find new followers. With that information, you can find the Pinners who created those boards- and those who  follow  them- to start building your community. You can learn a lot from the Pinners who follow the popular boards that share your content. 10. Ask  Your Friends From Other Networks To Become  Pinterest Followers, Too Everyone seems to have their favorite social networks, so why not reach out to your existing friends to see if they'd also like to connect with you on Pinterest? It turns out, Pinterest thought that was a pretty good idea and created a Find Friends feature right in the tool itself. Since you've already connected your other social profiles like Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ into Pinterest, just navigate from your Pinterest profile to the Find Friends page. Navigate to the Find Friends feature from your Pinterest profile. From here, you can follow the people you already know from your other networks. Mitt Ray elaborates on this tactic  on Social Media Examiner, "As you follow people you already have relationships with, they’ll be very likely to follow you back." Use Pinterest's Find Friends feature to follow people who already know, like, and trust you. That will encourage them to follow you on Pinterest. 11. Follow Your Competition's Pinterest Followers When content marketer Matthew Barby decided to start a food blog from absolutely nothing, he wrote about his experience getting his initial followers. One tactic that worked for him  involved researching his top competition and following the boards of his competitors' followers. Matthew walks through those steps: Follow 50–100 of your competition's followers' boards every day for about two weeks. Create several boards every day to rival the ideas your competition shares, adding 2–3 boards a week. Pin great content from your own blog or website to get a solid foundation for those boards. Repin about 10 Pins twice a day to each of your boards. This process, combined with solid content strategy, helped Matthew get an initial 515 Pinterest followers for a very competitive niche. The best part is that you can follow his advice and experience similar results. Pro Tip: If you wanna catch your competition's followers in near real-time so you know they're likely still active on Pinterest, use the query you just learned, but substitute your competitor's domain in it: https://www.pinterest.com/source/YourCompetitorsDomain.com/. 12.  Meet New Pinners Through Great Group Boards Here's another Pinterest tip  from Nicole: Get into GREAT group boards, but don't go crazy with Pinning.  When people follow those boards, they see your content, which could influence more shares. You want to find group boards that  have high followers  and  relatively low contributors. When you join a group board, you will instantly have access to more followers- to every Pinner who already follows that group board. Seems like great advice, so how can you find group boards that are right for you to contribute to? Start with PinGroupie. It's a database site dedicated to helping Pinners find group boards. You can sort tons of boards by category, then number of  followers to narrow the group boards to that of your niche that have  a larger following with fewer contributors. PinGroupie will help you find group boards to grow your following on Pinterest. Group boards are especially helpful for getting more followers because when a Pinner chooses  to "Follow all" of the boards from the creator, they also subscribe to receiving Pins from you through that group board. 13. Create Your Own Group Boards To Build A Community With Pinners You Love While existing group boards are a great  way to tap into the leg work someone else has done to grow their Pinterest following, you can start a group board yourself and invite Pinners you already respect to join you. Just create a new board by hitting the + Create a board button, then invite other Pinners to contribute to  your board. Creating a new group board will help you tap into the followers your friends already have. Now, most group boards have ground rules and structure. A good place to start is by building the board out with a following using all of the advice you've learned from this post, define your rules for participation, then invite others to join you once they can see the benefits of Pinning with you are worth it. Here are a few things to consider as you come up with your group board contribution guidelines: What  topics are appropriate to cover in your group board? How many times can a contributor Pin to your group board per day? How will you handle new Pinners who ask  to contribute? Write your guidelines up briefly, then add a note into your board description on how people can contact you to join. Create a new group board on #Pinterest to tap into your friends' followers.14. Host A Contest To  Increase Your Engagement Let's start this off by acknowledging that Pinterest is a bit wary of contests in general because marketers have abused them in the past. To run a successful contest and not end up in "Pinterest Jail" as Nicole calls it, follow their acceptable use policy: If you're thinking of hosting a Pinterest contest, know the rules first. While that sounds like a lot of things that you shouldn't do, that leaves you with a few creative ways that focus on real engagement (which is, after all, what your potential followers  really like anyway): Create a  page on your own website to cover your rules, share how you'll choose the winners, ask for entry, and show off the prizes you'll give away. From there, you can share Pins to your landing page that have those clear guidelines  that are easy to understand. Ask Pinners to Pin  original pictures of them using your products, coming up with their own recipes or formulas with Repins from anywhere, sharing their own stories, and so on. Often, you can ask Pinners to create a new board where they can Pin  all they'd like, then they can simply provide the URL to that board to you via your contest landing page. Judge the winner  through creative interpretation and not through number of Pins, likes, boards, or comments. Note: You can't ask for a follow and consider that an opt-in to the contest. Pinterest elaborates that it's against terms to "Compensate or incentivize Pinners to take actions on Pinterest such as Pinning or following." So you also can't require contest participants to be followers in order to participate if you plan on giving them a prize or giveaway. However,  a contest like this can help you increase your engagement and build a community that will inevitably turn participants into followers. 15. Comment On Pins To Increase Your Reach You can start with Popular Pins, a category that Pinterest creates  with Pins that get a lot of engagement. Find a couple that you have experience with, and comment on them to share your perspective. As Mitt Ray notes, you're looking for more than easy comments like "Nice Pin." Provide your take on the Pin, additional advice it's missing, or takeaways you've learned on that topic. Mitt says that this tactic can help you increase your visibility- and the potential of earning new followers- because you're commenting on the most popular content on Pinterest. Provide your thoughts on Pins. Add in advice that is missing. #Pinterest #marketingWhile that sounds smart, another very targeted way to reach more people is to comment on Pins from those who've already shared your content. Build trust with people who already know who you are by showing them the real personality behind your blog or brand. Here's a reminder on how to find those folks: Check  your Pinterest Analytics domain tab or  search  this query for your domain:  https://www.pinterest.com/source/YourDomain.com/. 16. Mention Others  When You Share The Love Consider mentions an extension of commenting and Repinning. Mention Pinners to spark a conversation. You can use mentions in  Pin descriptions and in comments, which "can be a great way to attract their attention and get them to follow you." An easy tactic is to ask someone a question via a mention to spark up a conversation. The more interaction, the more likely they'll be to follow you. Mechanics Behind The Scenes 17.  Name Your Boards To Stand Out From The Crowd Remember when you read that Pinterest is a fusion between social and search engines? That applies into the names  and descriptions you use in your boards to help  potential followers find your Pins. Rebekah Radice suggests that Pinterest boards should be direct, descriptive, and  personal to help you get more followers. And a few of the defining elements that make good boards stand out to new followers are solid cover  images, keyword rich names and descriptions, and a niche focus. Make your #Pinterest boards stand out with a brilliant cover image. #marketingLet's explore each of those areas to help you get more followers by optimizing your boards: Choose your cover  images iFabbo, a resource for fashion bloggers, knows a thing or two about catching people's attention. They offer some simple advice for choosing your cover  images to make your boards stand out: Rock a high-quality image. Make it colorful or out of the ordinary to catch the eye. Fit it into the constraints of the board cover itself (222 x 150 pixels is the perfect size). Make sure it represents the topic of the board. You can create an image specifically for your board cover following those guidelines. First, Pin the image you'd like as your cover. Then  go to your Pinterest profile, hit Edit on your board, then on Cover, hit the Change button. You can choose any Pin you'd like as your cover image. Niche focus Your blog likely has a content core: The magical place where you  strategize what you want to say with what your audience wants to know. The process looks a little like this: Use the words your audience uses to describe that niche in your board descriptions. Keyword rich When you defined your target niche, you likely also found several sub-topics that you could cover. Use those topics in your board names to help Pinners find your content. Note: By focusing  each board on one clear topic, you'll make it an easy decision to follow those boards  for Pinners  who are interested in those very niche and specific subjects. 18. Get More Visibility  With The Best Design For Your Original Pins Some kinds of content perform significantly better than others on Pinterest.  So it makes sense, then, to use the experience from others to improve your own Pins: Images without  faces get 23% more Repins than those that have faces. Craziness. Red and orange Pins get two times as many Repins when compared to blue (and other dominant color) Pins. Pins with less distracting backgrounds get more traffic. So stick with simple designs. Longer is better. Design pins that are 735 pixels wide and 2:3 aspect ratio (1,102 pixels tall) to get the most traffic. Nicole explains the art behind designing images and graphics for Pinterest: Make sure you are using vertical collage-type Pins, which perform much better on average than regular verticals because they take up more space on a user's screen.  And always, always, always consider how it looks on mobile. Small and ugly text on photos can end up being totally unreadable on a mobile device.  And a lot  of people are mobile pinning. And, of course, Nicole is right. 75% of Pinterest's users rock Pinterest on their mobile devices. That means if you don't consider mobile in your design, you're neglecting how three-fourths of your followers prefer to experience your content. 19. Use Keywords In Your Pin Descriptions To Help Pinners Find Your Content You've already  found keywords for your blog posts  that you're Pinning. Use those same keywords in your Pin descriptions to help potential followers find your content. Target keywords in your Pin descriptions to help potential followers find your content. Recommended Reading:  An SEO Driven Approach To Content Marketing: The Complete Guide 20. Pin On The Best Days And At The Best Times To Maximize Your Engagement Pinners are more active on certain days and times than others.  When we analyzed 10 studies to find the best times to post on social media, the data told us: Saturdays are definitely the best for Pinning to Pinterest, and specifically from 8–11 p.m. Next up is any day between 2–4 a.m. or 2–4 p.m. Try Pinning on Fridays at 3 p.m. That's the sweeping general answer. You can Pin a lot every day, so what are really the best times when your audience is using Pinterest? After all, you are probably trying to attract new followers that are similar to your existing fans, so sharing at the peak times when they're online could help you get more followers. So grab this Google Analytics custom report  to find the best day  to Pin based on your own audience (the report is also available in your kit that complements this post). When you use the report, you'll see a list of  networks. Click through on Pinterest. Choose Pinterest from the list in your Google Analytics custom report to see the best day when you get traffic from Pinterest. Now you'll see the  list of days  of the week when you typically get the most traffic from Pinterest. These are the days of the week when you get the most traffic from Pinterest. So these are the days when your followers are most active. You can drill in even further to find the specific best time to Pin to Pinterest on any day of the week. This is the best time of day to get traffic from Pinterest specifically for the day of the week you just selected. Or use this second Google Analytics custom report  if you're looking for a bit more general information just on the best time to Pin when you typically get the most traffic- omitting days (this report is also  in your kit). Just like the other report, click through on Pinterest and you'll see the times when you typically get the most traffic. 0 is midnight and 23 is 11 p.m. The Google Analytics custom report shows the times when you get the most traffic from Pinterest. Use this to gauge when your followers are most active and schedule your Pins accordingly. 21. Share More Often To Get More Visibility How many times to Pin a day? It's a good question because if you Pin too little, there really isn't a reason to follow you, while if you Pin too much, you just get annoying. So is there a magical number of times to Pin a day to help you get more Pinterest followers? That was the question I explored recently analyzing 10 different studies  to find a recommended minimum, maximum, and a solid starting point for how often to Pin. Here's what that research uncovered: The pros all disagree. Some say a maximum Pinning frequency is 3 times a day whereas others say 20. Some say a minimum is 5 while others say 10. So I averaged all of those studies' data to find a starting point for an ideal daily Pinning frequency: Pin 9 times a day. After you get started, test sending a few more Pins, then a few less. Use the Google Analytics reports in your kit to understand if your tests had positive impacts on your traffic, then continue doing what works. Pinterest is a high volume sharing community- so error on the side of more engagement than less. Bonus! 22. Schedule  Your Pins Throughout The Day To Keep Your Followers Happy With her more than 1.6 million followers on Pinterest, Kim Vij knows a thing or two about building an audience. She says: It’s probably the quickest ways to lose followers if all you do is pin tons of pins at the same time and focus most on you and your most recent post. Mitt Ray agrees with Kim, saying: Don’t share everything at once: Instead of clouding your followers’ feeds with your pins all at once, time your pins to go out at regular intervals. So, what's the best approach? Use 's new integration to schedule your Pins to Pinterest. Plan Pins for your own content, and use the social curation Chrome extension to add other folks' awesome content into your Pinterest schedule. Schedule your Pins around the peak times when your audience is most active. Use your best day  and best time  Google Analytics dashboards to understand when you typically get the most traffic so you can  schedule your Pins to get noticed. Start by scheduling 9 Pins a day, with at least 5 of those being curated content. Here's an example of what your daily Pin schedule could look like to help you visualize your work: Now You Know How To Get More Followers On Pinterest By this point, you're pretty much a follower-generating machine. You know how to: Optimize your Pinterest profile to draw in those visual-loving Pinners to become your followers. Optimize your blog to turn your traffic into followers and share Pins with all of your social media followers. Share content and participate in the conversation according to the informal rules Pinners demand that you follow. Now go build an audience that'll help you grow your blog.  You've got this!

Data Mining Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Data Mining - Essay Example The second stage is Predictive Modeling, whereby patterns discovered in the earlier stage are used to make predictions about the future. The third stage is Forensic Analysis, where the patterns extracted are used to find unusual data elements. 3. One of the pitfalls of data mining is the vast quantities of data that are generated(Khabaza, 2005). When the volume of data is too high, mining becomes sluggish, hence the way to avoid this is by using sampling. Another is the generation of irrelevant data, so that the amount of relevant data mined may be less. Thirdly, if data mining is disorganized, it takes place in an ad hoc manner and will not generate useful results. Avoiding this requires clear definition of goals. When there is incompatibility in data mining tools, this causes interference in exploratory capability and high overhead costs. 4. The data mining program was used to identify hidden trends in the data. The airline company can use the data to identify the specific characteristics of those customers who are frequent users of the airline. The mined data can also be used to find a relationship among different sectors based upon customer behavior. 5. Two specific industries where data mining is likely to be very useful are banking and the retail industry. With the increase in electronic banking, transactional data can be easily captured and data mining helps analyze it. Data mining in the banking industry can help banks to analyze trends and patterns and to predict how customers may react to change sin interest rates. In the retail industry, data is collected when orders are placed and data mining of such information can unearth demographic trends in the data and can help direct marketing efforts. * Khabaza, Tom, 2005. â€Å"Hard hats for data miners: Myths and pitfalls of Data Mining†, DM Review

Why We Cant Wait Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Why We Cant Wait - Essay Example People of color especially African Americans were seen as people who belonged to the lower or second class in society. As a result, African Americans were not allowed to access certain areas, and were not admitted to same schools as whites. It is clear that Martin Luther stated that African Americans could no longer wait for the followings things; ii. Lack of trust in government and politicians especially after the perceived failures of President Kennedy in that during his reign, Kennedy failed to establish a stance housing desegregation policy and did not address the issue of African American voting rights in states such as Virginia and Texas. It is vivid from the article that the media in American helped to propagate racial sentiments against black people. For instance, the media propagated racial segregation in their articles where they referred to black people as darkies, coons, and niggers. Their messages in the articles spread anti-black information and stereotypes. In schools, white children saw black children as inferior and worthless. All social institutions such as schools and churches reinforced oppression of the people of color particularly African Americans (Luther 56). Many things happening in the American society prompted Luther to write the book. For instance, King argues that the white race mistreated black people. He documents the following practices and norms to depict how pervasive and inclusive racial segregation was entrenched in society. Violence was used to place African Americans at the bottom of the racial hierarchy. For instance, the Jim Crow used war on drug to discriminate black people whereby, police applied excess force to arrest black men on conception that they were drug dealers. This reveals how the criminal justice system in America was racist in trying to connect the dots between earlier forms of social and current system of mass incarceration (Luther 61). Continuous Quality Improvement - Research Paper Example 2.1.1. Professional model and transformational model. There is difference between professional model used for health services and transformation model. Sollecito and Johnson (2011, p. 424) notes that, the professional model emphasizes ion the organization and its system. The organization is considered supreme. The professional model advocated for individual responsibility in the service delivery. The leaders were professionals and a preserve of the few. There was a lot of autonomy and authority was bestowed upon the administration. Similarly, the professionals had the authority over the customer. Plans were to be followed strictly and goals to be accomplished according to the instructions of the institution. Quality assurance was embraced. The transformational model focuses on cultivating the existing organization and changing the perspective so that the improvement is seen as a continuous process. Transformational model recognizes the participation of all stakeholders to include the professional, the management the health workers and both internal and external clients. Many aspects of the service delivery are considered subject to improvement. The improvements are made continually using scientific methods. The transformational model ensured the responsibility is shared between the individuals, the leaders and the healthcare employees. Employees were trained to become leaders and engaged leadership skills at all levels. The value of the outcome was emphasized to encourage participation and excellent performance. Continuous improvement is encouraged as planning is made flexible. The transformational model emphasizes on service that will impress and surpass the anticipation of the patient. The success of work is considered accomplished if the needs of the patients have been addressed satisfactorily or exceedingly. Patients are not the problem; the problem is in the process of delivering the healthcare services. Variation is intended and misappropriation can cause negative outcomes.

Developing a Socially Stratified Society

Developing a Socially Stratified Society Reconstructing the society There are many categories in which we sort humans. Among the major categories we have race, class and gender. Race is a social concept that categorizes humans into large populations and groups that stand distinctively by cultural, anatomical, genetic, geographical and social affiliation. There is not yet an agreement on the best definition of class, but it can be defined as people belonging to the same same social, economic and educational status. Gender is the range of characteristics pertaining between masculinity and feminity, and also differentiating them. Alternatively, it pertains to socially constructed roles, behaviours and also attributes that a society considers right for both the male and the female gender. We can incorporate the films â€Å"La Haine† and â€Å"manufacturing consent† to illustrate this. In La Haine, we can illustrate the impression of class as a category in which we sort the human race. This is clear when there ensue a hard-hitting drama between the police and the disenfranchised French youth. The relationship that can be examined between these two groups is riotous because of the social class. There is a riot that took place after a second generation Arab was beaten by the cops. The following day, young men went to Paris and they were arrested by the police. They were interrogated, only to be involved in a rumble with skinheads later on. On their returning home, what they encountered was never suspected. Delving deeper into the film La Haine, we find the writer director Mathieu Kassovitz butting the European urbanity with the American style of the streets as clash with the police in suburban parts. The end result can be seen as an explosion scathing social commentary and generally the story-telling is dynamic. Closer scrutiny to the generaton; class and race are the major factors that divide the nation of France. Kassovits attacks the frontlines of power fearlessly but on a rather unreservedly pessimistic note. A riot in seen in the outskirts of paris where the police beat Abdel Ahmed Ghili, an Arab teenager, into a coma. This fuelled a lot of anger and hatred inside Vincent cassel, who is commonly reffered to as Vinz. Vinz was a Jew who was determined to whack the cops in the occasion the boy dies. The jocular admitted this to the cohorts of Vincent. He also approached Humbert, an African boxer, to speak to him of his rather evil plan as they embark on an adventurous voyage from the neighbourhood of immigrants. The time bomb ticks a fatal account of the society’s decline which is plainly one sided. The efforts of only one police who shows sympathy to the troubled youth are negligible and ineffective among an army of bullies and bigots. It can be seen that kassovits view situations in black-and-white which vividly explains the reason for striking a monochrome print. It is the conviction and broad discovery with which he writes the story that makes it really compelling. He lifts up a scene straight from the taxi driver where Vincent Cassel poses infront of the mirror with a gun. He asks his own image if it is talking to him. Humbert is seen to offset him with a cool self assurance. Taghmaoui performance was outstanding when he offers funny relief to neutralize the unbearable tension. He prompted a hitherto, unseen and executed it brilliantly. Racism has been seen to be a particular problem in the police force. The tense relationship between the policemen and the youth evidences racism. It takes place during a 24 hour period. When Abdul is injured and is critically in hospital, in the course of retribution, Vinz is caught in the possession of a policeman’s gun he had obtained in the riot. He swore to murder a â€Å"pig† if Abdul dies. This illustrates how race is a major class of sorting the humans We can construct a socially stratified reality that will help us save some of these racial, class and gender related problems. The most basic elements of the social structure is status. It stands for a social position that is recognized and of which an individual occupies in the society. There are duties and responsibilities usually in relation to complimentary positions. Secondly, we have the status set. Everyone in the society holds many status positions and not one. Status set can be defined as all the statuses that a person holds at a given time. One can be a male or a female, teacher or student, husband or wife among many others. When we talk of status, it can either be ascribed or achieved status. Ascribed status is achieved at birth or later assumed involuntarily in the course of life. Achieved status is a social position that is assumed voluntarily. Its can reflect the personal ability that one has or the magnitude of efforts with which he puts. Oftenly, we have a combination of both the achieved status and the ascribed status. However, there’s that status with an exceptional importance for social identity and that shapes a person’s personal life. This is referred to as a master status and according to our society, one’s occupation often comprises this position. According to the social diversity, physical disability becomes the master status for many people. Some other ascribed statuses like race or sex are other examples of positions which in one way or the other are a person’s master statuses. In the construction of a socially stratified reality, the concept of role is significant. By role, we mean the expected behavior that is attached to particular status. The expectations the society attaches to a role somewhat makes the role performance to differ. Since each status has several roles attached to it, a person has many roles than statuses. This number of roles attached to particular status is referred to as role set. An individual can creatively shape reality through social interaction. It is understood as a negotiation process which generates to shaping reality. People also build reality from the surrounding culture that varies widely within a given society. Analysis of social interaction in terms of theatrical performances is crucial. Individuals in various settings make attempts to create impressions in the minds of others, what is referred to as impression management. There are various reasons why discrimination arises and how it is perpetuated. Compounding effect of multiple grounds are always linked to a person’s experience of definition. For example, researches confirm that the elderly and persons with disabilities experience higher unemployment chances. Members of radicalized groups with such qualities may also be underemployed on multiple grounds. These are social harms and pains that come from such acts of discrimination. Another reason for discrimination is protecting persons associated with others protected by the code. The code could protect people who are not personally identified by one of the grounds. The big question arises on whether one is a member of a protected group. There should be considerable intent behind how u treat someone instead of analysis based on looks, myths and stereotypes. This is discrimination based on perceived grounds. Age could also be another reason for discrimination on may social area including employment. Younger job applicants may be discriminated on the grounds of stereotypes about youth and experience. Older employees may be discriminated on the grounds of health related and disability concerns. They should eliminate discrimination and instead base thneir decisions on the basis of actual merits, capacities and circumstances. Others are discriminated on the basis of underage and considered to as minors. Some are discriminated whenever employers state the maximum and minimum age. Disability is another major point of concern. This has been claimed by a quarter of all human rights. Employers are concerned with disability related concerns, and to prevent these claims and issues in a timely way, they opt to discriminate which should not be the case. They should instead apply measures such as inclusive design and develop accommodation issues. Family status is another major reason for discrimination. A person’s marital status has also become a major concern. To take care of this, policies and actions should not be based on social areas. Some stereotypes that a man or a woman is of a greater value than other types of marital status should be dropped. There is also race and race related grounds of discrimination. Language itself is not a ground for discrimination but it may be associated with any of the race related grounds. The same case applies to color. Ancestry and place of origin are also major causes of discrimination. Citizenship, sex, and record of offences, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation are also major causes of discrimination. However, discrimination may be stopped. These include setting the standards without placing blame. One should bring awareness on what is acceptable and what should be dropped. Whenever one experiences discrimination, it is good to challenge the behavior immediately. Sometimes it is good to address the challenge even if it means later in future. In the process of eliminating discrimination, it is important to know your audience your evidence and understand them. This makes it easier to drive a convincing argument and know what points you need to change. It is good to take your time and work out the best strategy in which you can address discrimination. You can also seek the advice of other in order to come up with the best strategy. One can also seek the help of others including a lawyer to know your rights. Discrimination has hazardous consequences. Some of the physical consequences associated with discrimination include change of appetite, decreased energy, stress related ailments, insomnia, headaches among others. It also has emotional impacts such as anger, depression, fear, feeling of isolation, self blame and guilt. Career and academic impact include absenteesm, decreased concentration, and reduced productivity whenever one fall victim. The grades or employment records suffer because of this. The vice of discrimination also has social impacts such as alcohol and drug abuse. It leads to physical and emotional withdrawal from friends and family. Financial impacts include decrease in professional reputation or academic standing, decrease in future job opportunities, actual loss of jobs, scholarships and recommendations. The organization may also suffer costs of discrimination such litigation, higher employee turnover, tarnished public image, frustration and loosing sides. In conclusion, impression management is very fundamental in our daily life. Talking of impression management we mean the process with which people attempt to influence perceptions of other people, object or even designs. It may extent to professional or even public relations. There are three types of intangible consequences that are associated with discrimination. These include fines, litigation costs and also bad publicity. Litigation expenses are associate dwith employment discrimination claims. These includes the attorney fees and investigative expenses. There are sums of costs associated with litigation. They include punitive damages and compensatory damages. Lost income and revenue is a tangible, though difficult to measure, cause of discrimination. When the media covers such issues there may be a considerable drop in sales hence lost incomes and revenues. There are no socially responsible customers that will want to be associated with supporting businesses that have been involved with scandals of social discrimination practices. Organizations use impressions such as branding as strategies to convey the brand image to external and internal audiences. Mangers have no option other than build the impressions they make on others, be it subordinates and business partners. The imperession they create is the overall effect on their understanding All in all, these are just but ways in which we create a socially stratified reality, or rather category driven realities. Sex in the Media Essay -- Television Commercial Advertising Essays

Sex in the Media One of the most important resources of a business is its advertisement team. Due to the fact that people can and will buy your product only if they know about it. This is the reason that marketing and advertisement have the biggest budgets in a business. This is the reason that places such as Amazon.com spend up to four million dollars on advertisement a year, according to 'Dream-Biz.com' written by Burke Hedges. There is a saying that goes 'Sex-sells' is this true? Most people would argue that it does. Since choosing this topic it has forced me to see everything different. When I sit and watch television I can?t help but notice all of the strong sexual messages that are being thrown at me every second. This project will touch on many venues of advertisement, from television to radio and even printed advertisement. It seems to me that sex is being used to sell everything. It has become custom to see promotions for a movie that would have a hot and seductive scene, or even in a music video; which have become short movies themselves. I feel that the use of sex in advertisement has gone a little too far, when sex is used to sell juice that?s were I draw the line. Snapple had a campaign to reach ages 18-24 year old consumers. Their previous commercials targeted consumers in their 30?s and 40?s. Their new campaign was supposed to reach a broad spectrum of demographics while continuing to appeal to older Snapple fans. So what did they use ?Sex?. Fruit sex, that is. These commercials have the familiar fruit faces of Snapple?s prior commercials; just a little racier depiction of these ads with references to sex and jail. Brand Analysis For disney cruiseline

The Disney Cruise line is one of the ventures of the Walt Disney company which focuses on providing family entertainment. An analysis of the Disney Cruise line brand indicates that its revenues and market share be taken into consideration. However, Disney does not report the revenues and expenditures of the Cruise line separately. Thus experts’ estimates have to depended upon in order to gauge the worth of the cruise line.According to some analysts:Based on what Disney Cruise Line has reported — about 390,000 passengers a year and an average of $200 in revenue a day per passenger — the business likely grosses more than $312 million a year, or $156 million per ship. (Jackson, 2005) The Disney Cruise line has 2 ships in its fleet with two more to be launched in 2010 and 2011. While each ship can accommodate around 3,508 passengers, the market share of the cruise line is at 1. 8%. (Kwortnik Jr. , 2006) Positioning and Competitive Differentiation PointDisney Cruise l ines position themselves in the market and differentiate on the basis of the value the Cruise line provides rather than service attributes or benefits. According to Anne Riley-Katz: In the nine years that it has operated its current two cruise ships, Disney has set itself apart from other lines by capitalizing on the family niche, a newer segment of a market that traditionally played to honeymooners and retirees. (Riley-Katz, 2007) Disney likes to refer to itself as ‘A leader in the family cruise segment’ (Disney Cruise News, 2009).And the values it highlights are the family experience with fun activities for all age groups. Disney Cruise line boasts of kids’ activities, teenage entertainment activities as well as something to do for adults on their own. It is because of the family focus that Disney cruises are priced higher than other cruise lines and focus on high quality recreational activities aboard the ships. According to the Disney Cruiseline Website: Disn ey Cruise Line offers cruise vacations to be enjoyed by the young and young at heart. (Disney Cruise News, 2009)Thus its point of differentiation lies in the fact that it has special activities and services designed for all age groups heightening family and individual experience. The cruise line’s competitive line of differentiation is its focus on the niche of the family market rather than an adult market exclusively as most cruises are advertised for. Other cruise lines generally are for adults and couples. Unlike most other Cruise lines, Disney does not have a casino on the deck and has areas restricted to adults for activities that are deemed not to be meant for kids.Promotional Messages In a TV commercial aired by the Cruise line available at http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=rHrSX0gHX_8, a child enters an elevator with his mother and his one year old brother and starts relating of his and his family’s experience in a typical child like manner. The high-point of t he commercial is that the child says that his baby brother is a little souvenir from the Disney cruise that they took a year ago. The advertising focuses on Disney creating a magical experience for the entire family which is unforgettable. As in the TV commercial, the child is seen to remember the experience and relate its events as if he had recently been on the trip. This depicts that the Disney Cruise line wants to position its vacations as an unforgettable experience for the parents as well as the children. Moreover, children are more prone to forgetting events but Disney has projected an image where it says that even children remember the experience. Strengths and Weaknesses The strengths of the brand include the huge brand equity that is associated with the parent company. Consumers view Disney as brand oriented towards families and children. Thus Disney comes across as a credible brand that will not malign the minds of children and a brand that parents can trust their children can learn from. The Cruise line with its strong endorsement from the parent company depicts the values that the consumers hold dear in their view of Disney. Thus its main strength lies in the strong brand name. Moreover, the cruise line is priced at premium rates implying high quality services. Further when most cruise lines are focusing on people on a honeymoon or people who have retired Disney has been able to capture the niche of family cruise.the potency of the cruise lines also lies in the fact that being family oriented, the occupancy in the ships is higher than on other cruise lines and that allows for lowering of costs while revenue increases. The weaknesses of the brand are basically its very short fleet of two ships which restricts the number of excursions that Disney can undertake. This is one reason for its market share of merely 1. 8 percent. Along with this is the fact that Disney recently ordered two more ships to be built and given the recent economic downturn and es calating prices, Disney could suffer losses in terms of high prices charged by ship builders.According to estimates the two new ships will cost more than $800 million per ship. (Riley-Katz, 2007). Provided with the fact that Disney’s cruises have been very popular and successful, such a large investment in face of a recession is risky. References Disney Cruise News. (2009).
